Curtains Too Short? Here’s an easy sewing solution!

Today, while browsing my Facebook wall, noticed someone posted about an easy sewing solution!  I had to check that out and what a clever way to remedy the issue of purchased curtains being a wee bit too short.  Love this idea!

Have you ever bought curtains (usually at a great price on the sale rack) only to discover they weren’t long enough?  (raising my hand)  This is the perfect solution to fix that, which makes this idea at least partially homemade.  :)

If your last (and only!) sewing experience was in junior high or high school home ec class; then I have good news for you.

However, there is hope! You can now learn to sew with an online sewing course.  Work at your own pace.

My suggestion is…

Crochet for Kids

One of the joys of sewing, or any craft, is sharing the love of your hobby with your children.  Recently my family went on on an outing for Alpaca Farm Day to visit a local farm and learn all about Alpacas.

Since Alpaca are used for their fleece, which is then spun into yarn – you guessed it; I bought someAlpaca yarn to do some crocheting.

My daughters (9 & 11) were intrigued and wanted to learn to crochet too.  As with any new skill, it takes practice and patience to learn (and to teach them! ;)    They did pretty well overall and ended up making some crochet headbands. ;)

So I was thrilled to find this Crochet for Kids kit.  It’s so cute and kid-friendly.  I think this would kit would encourage them to continue learning to crochet.

Here’s the easy to read PDF instructions to make the Granny Squares in this kit.

I’m thinking this would be perfect for Christmas!!

How to Make a Knot Quilt

Love this concept – very much a rag quilt look when finished, only it’s done entirely by cutting strips along the edge of the fabric squares, then attaching the squares together by tying two strips together.

In this video, a  knot quilt kit was used – which would certainly cut down the time to make this type of quilt, but you could easily buy your own fabric, cut the strips yourself and them tie them.  Either way – very cute!

How to Make a Rag Quilt

I love rag quilts! So easy.
